Motivation can be fleeting, here one day and gone the next, right? One day we feel motivated to do a workout, the next we just can't bear the thought. Or one day we eat a salad but the day after we just gotta have pizza. It can be like a roller coaster. We want to ____ (or at least we want to want to), but it can so easily lead to wishful thinking instead of action, right? Let’s learn how to break out of this fruitless cycle and finally stay motivated! On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being lowest, 10 being highest), how would you rank your current motivation level for being healthy? If you had to pick between fitness and nutrition, which do you wish you had more motivation for? You'll be far more successful if you start with one or the other, not both. Do you have your answer? Here's a concrete, practical solution to GETTING and STAYING motivated, whether it's for fitness or nutrition! In order to start your road to success you need FOCUS. But what exactly does that mean? It means you only need to focus on the next 5 steps, not the end goal. It's all about baby steps! For example, instead of saying, "I need to start exercising 5 days a week" (when you're currently never exercising) you could say, "I am going to workout Tuesday and Thursday this week and next week." Doesn't that sound less overwhelming and way more doable? Or maybe you're tempted to say, "I just have to start eating healthy foods daily and start doing meal prep," you could lift that burden and have a more specific and attainable goal, "I am going to fix a healthy breakfast every day this week. That's the only meal I'm going to target right now." Isn't that practical? My husband Jason often asks me when I'm overwhelmed, "Debbie, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Being "healthy" is a marathon and this lifestyle takes practice and patience. As long as we're making progress, THAT is perfection! When we can break goals into smaller pieces, we stay motivated and experience the joys of success!
