Halloween may have left a trail of candy, but let’s not let those treats haunt our goals! Now that it's November 1st, I want to share some simple, real-life strategies to help you enjoy the season without overindulging.
FIRST, LET'S TALK HALLOWEEN CANDY:
1. Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Keep Halloween candy out of your immediate line of sight. Whether it’s stashed in a high cabinet, the freezer, or even another room, making treats a little less accessible is a huge win!
2. Set a Sweet Boundary
Decide on a realistic limit, like one or two pieces per day, and stick to it. By planning ahead, you’re choosing to indulge mindfully – not mindlessly!
3. Try the ‘One and Done’ Rule
Choose one favorite treat, enjoy it slowly, and let that satisfy your sweet tooth. When you give yourself the freedom to enjoy, you’re less likely to binge later.
4. Involve the Kids
If you have children, talk about “sharing” the candy with others. Consider donating extra candy or setting up a swap for non-candy items to reduce the amount at home.
NOW, LET'S TALK NOVEMBER:
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, and it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed or stressed by it all. Here are some tips to keep you feeling balanced, happy, and strong through it.
1. Plan Your Indulgences
Be selective about what you really want to enjoy this season. For example, savor your favorite holiday dessert instead of snacking on things that don’t truly bring you joy.
2. Check In with Yourself
Before reaching for food, especially when stressed, take a moment to pause. Ask yourself, “Am I hungry, or am I looking for something else?” Sometimes a walk, a deep breath, or talking to a friend can satisfy the need better than food.
3. Balance & Enjoy Your Meals
Load up on fiber and protein before heading into gatherings. A balanced meal beforehand helps you feel fuller longer, making you less likely to overdo it on treats and appetizers.
4. Don’t Forget to Hydrate
Many times we confuse hunger with thirst. Drinking water (& BCAAs) before and between meals helps you stay hydrated and satisfied, reducing the chances of overindulging.
5. Be Kind to Yourself
Finally, remember that these special occasions aren’t about restriction – they’re about enjoyment, connection, and creating memories. If you have a treat, savor it. And if you slip up, be kind to yourself and move forward.
You can stay on track without missing out on holiday fun. Let’s make this season about staying healthy, feeling empowered, and enjoying every single moment with intention!
